Our Luxury Calendar provides a comprehensive overview of the top events unfolding around the world every month. Some are micro-luxuries (like a really good book) and others are on a grand, epic scale. It’s great fun to compile, and as we polish off our research we always dream a little dream about the entries that intrigue or excite us – the ones we most passionately want to be a part of. If schedules and money were no object, and we could choose the top ten experiences in the luxury sphere that we’d personally love to partake of, here’s what they’d be for November 2018. How about you?
WE WANT TO HEAR:
The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center performance of Death and the Maiden, an exploration of some of music’s great masterpieces about life’s end, including works by Schubert, Mussorgsky and Rachmaninov.
WE WANT TO SEE:
Andy Warhol: From A to B and Back Again at the Whitney Museum in New York, the first Warhol retrospective organized by a U.S. institution since 1989.
The Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater’s 60th anniversary season at City Center in Manhattan; the programme will feature the premiere of the company’s first two-act work, Lazarus, inspired by the life and legacy of the late Alvin Ailey – and of course, several performances of the iconic Revelations.
WE WANT TO READ:
Former First Lady Michelle Obama’s memoir, Becoming.
WE WANT TO CHECK OUT:
The black-tie Guggenheim International Gala, sponsored by Dior; the pre-party the night before will feature musical guest Jorja Smith and there’ll be after-hours access to the exhibition Hilma af Klint: Paintings for the Future. – Nov 14 and 15
The Formula 1 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, the final race of the season, on the spectacular Yas Island at the Yas Marina Circuit; with the track wrapping itself around the island’s glamorous marina, there’ll be a plethora of yachts on view and glamorous parties galore.
The Melbourne Cup, Australia’s most prestigious annual Thoroughbred horse race: a 3,200 meter race for three-year-olds and over, conducted by the Victoria Racing Club on the Flemington Racecourse in Melbourne, Victoria; it’s the richest “two-mile” handicap in the world, and one of the richest turf races. The event is known locally as “the race that stops a nation”
WE WANT TO CHECK INTO:
The newly-renovated and recently reopened Al Bustan Palace in Muscat, Oman. We have Oman high on our wish list of places to visit in 2019, and this Ritz Carlton property looks rather splendid.
WE WANT A TASTE OF:
Cool-kid foodie event Fire, Flour & Fork, a gathering “for the food curious” in Richmond, Virginia featuring a mix of dining events, behind-the-scenes tours, demonstrations, talks from food and beverage producers, cookbook authors, chefs, bartenders and bakers. This year’s theme is “Your Fork, Your Future,” and will focus on “unlocking the power of the recipe box, looking at the stories recipes tell both within families and within social and political movements fueled by food.”
Wow – what a month it could be! Have fun out there.
