You’ve seen the movie – now live the life. That’s right: one of the greatest joys in life is hanging out with your girlfriends. And while you can always meet in town, there’s real magic in hitting the road. Especially over the summer! But where should you go for the best luxurious Girl Trip? Our correspondent Jillian Tangen has rounded up the top places for a luxurious Girls Trip this year. Start the car and cue the playlist.

the joys of a vacation with your girlfriends

In my opinion, any vacation is a good vacation, but a vacation with your girlfriends is one of the best kinds.  Why is that?

Girl’s trips, at least for me, are much more rare.  Between work, family and other obligations it can be hard to round up the crew regularly even for a brunch, let alone an organized trip to a new city or destination.  That’s why I think a girl’s trip calls for something a little extra special.  After all, our girlfriends have seen us at our best and our worst, have kept us sane and most importantly, have loved us through it all.  So what better way to celebrate your special bond than by booking a getaway without the guys?

We know it’s not always easy to do, but trust me, your mental health, well being and friendships will thank you if you do.

Whether you want to explore a new culture or far-off locale, get adventurous in the outdoors or pamper yourselves at a deluxe spa, we’ve researched nine different itineraries that are sure to offer something for every member of your posse in addition to giving you a serious dose of girl bonding.  So in the spirit of Destiny’s Child, ladies leave your man at home, because it’s time for a girls trip!

Girls trips are a great opportunity to break out of your comfort zone, so don’t be afraid to change it up a bit and try something you never thought you could do.  After all, if you can’t do something new and crazy with your girlfriends, when can you do it?

1. Go glamping in Virginia.

You’re finally outta the house, so why not stay out in the great wide open? There’s no need to rough it though, because at Sandy River in Rice, Virginia you can stay in a 650 square foot luxury tipi complete with heated floors, air conditioning, full bathroom and kitchenette.  While there you and your gal pals can try out canoeing on the Appomattox and Sandy Rivers, biking in the High Bridge State Park or even do a session at the onsite Adventure Park with over 60 obstacles and 20 zip lines for some serious girl bonding.

2. Get Scandi-rustic in Iceland.

Just a short 45 minute flight from Reykjavik is the small town of Tröllaskagi.  Nestled on the troll peninsula of northern Iceland, it’s the perfect spot for some late spring skiing (peak season is April and May).  If the girls are feeling extra adventurous try some cold water surfing or take a fat bike ride through the snow trails.  Afterwards you can unwind at the nearby Deplar Farm which features an elegant spa with pools heated by geothermal energy followed by a meal prepared with fresh, local ingredients by Iceland’s 2018 Chef of the Year.

3. Cruise through ancient Egypt.

If you’re game for an adventure minus the strenuous activity then try a Uniworld Cruise of Egypt and the Nile River.  On board you and your girl girl gang will follow in the footsteps of renowned explorers and venture into the Valley of the Kings via the Nile River.  The ship stops at some of the world’s most famous ancient temples and pyramids in addition to the Sphinx.  Other adventurous activities include a ride in a felucca, a traditional Nile River sailboat.  After which, you can unwind in one of the ship’s cabana’s overlooking the Egyptian scenery while your recall the days adventures together.

What better way is there to bond than by exploring a new city or culture together?  Not only will you get to try tons of new foods and customs, but you will also create lasting memories of new shared experiences you can look back on.

4. Get festive in Tokyo.

Spring is arguably the best time to visit Tokyo.  Not just because there are fewer tourists, but also because the cherry blossom trees are in full bloom and the city is full of lots of traditional Japanese festivals.  From April 30 – May 6th the city observes Kurayami Matsuri, an annual festival in celebration of darkness.  In the evening, homes and shops turn off their bright interior lights and the streets are lit up with lanterns and a parade filled with floats and dancing up and down the street.  For even more culture, stay at the Mandarin Oriental Tokyo, which is a mecca for Japanese art, shopping and design into itself.

5. Go wine Tasting in Napa Valley.

Nothing is more relaxing than your girlfriends and a glass of wine, except perhaps when you add the rolling green hills of Napa Valley into the mix.  An easy and fun way to get a taste of some of what California has to offer is to try a Getaway Adventures Bike Tour, which stops at wineries in Sonoma.  After all the biking and tasting retreat to Solage, where you can relax in the geothermal water bathhouse, dine at the Michelin starred Solbar, or of course, stroll to downtown Calistoga’s tasting rooms and surrounding wineries for a little more wine, we don’t judge and neither will your friends.

6. Embrace your inner Southern Belle in NOLA.

Don’t let the fact that New Orleans is the unofficial bachelorette capital of United States bother you.  There is so much more to this town than the crowded Bourbon Street and Jackson Square.  For a real taste of history, stop by the 1850 House where you’ll get a sense of what life was like in the antebellum more than 100 years ago.  For even more taste of the past, be sure to stay at the iconic Roosevelt Hotel which features one of the grandest lobby’s in town and a rooftop pool with sweeping views over the Crescent City.  Oh, and don’t forget to bring your appetite, because New Orleans is a foodie’s paradise, making it a perfect place to dig in with friends.

Get some much needed R&R with your closest friends.  By taking a wellness focused trip you will be able to not only get yourself some well deserved rest and relaxation, but also recharge and reconnect your relationships with those who know you best.

7. Retreat to Italy.

Puglia’s Borgo Egnazia is not only the home to Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel’s wedding, but it’s also home to a number of high end wellness retreats.  The hotel’s new Tarant Retreat is solely for women and is based on an ancient Apulian ritual.  Over the course of four days, ladies partake in dance movements, music therapy, yoga and spa treatments, in addition to specifically designed Mediterranean meal plan. If dancing isn’t your thing, you can still opt to stay in one of the resort’s 29 villas and take a trip to their Vair Spa, a modern take on a traditional Roman bath house which employs “artist therapists” including a psychologist composer, a scent master and a hair doctor.

8. Hit the hot springs of Colorado.

If a trip to Europe is too far for a dip in hot springs, then try the tiny town of Pagosa nestled in the San Juan Mountains of southern Colorado.  Pagosa is home to the deepest geothermal hot springs in the world. Called the Mother Spring, this 1,000+ foot deep spring is made up of features water that has the same salt content as the ocean in addition to plenty of nutrients, like lithium, manganese and potassium, all of which are said to have major health benefits.  Springs Resort & Spa boasts 23 different soaking pools that vary in temperature, so you can venture from something piping hot to cool to piping hot again.  So if you and your girlfriends are looking to do some R&R stateside, look no further than the great outdoors of Colorado.

9. Seek seclusion in Tulum.

What better way is there to reconnect with old friends then by heading to the pristine and secluded beaches of Mexico?  Habitas is located in the luxe hippie beach town of Tulum on Mexico’s Yucatan peninsula.  Here, you can stay in either an oceanfront or jungle located tent that will be unlike any other tent you might have stayed in before.  Tents here have hardwood floors, air conditioning, private outdoor rain showers and expansive views of the jungle or sea.  While the hotel often is home to pop up retreats of varying themes, the focus at this resort is always on wellness, food and music.  So you can rest assured that the spa treatments, ocean facing pool, dining and tunes here are top notch and perfect for creating new memories.
