Heading to Martha’s Vineyard this summer? There may be some new things to see and do since you were last on the island. Here’s the rundown on the best of what’s new on Martha’s Vineyard this year.

We scanned lots of news sites and blogs about Martha’s Vineyard, and here’s what we learned about what awaits on the island in summer 2019. Here’s the best of what’s new this year on Martha’s Vineyard. We can’t wait to get there and see all of this for ourselves!

new location for the mv museum

The new location of the Martha’s Vineyard Museum is open in Vineyard Haven. Opened on March 13, 2019, the new location is in the former Marine Hospital overlooking Vineyard Haven Harbor. The museum boasts a wide range of artifacts and collections chronicling Island history and culture, including a rare Fresnel lens built in 1854 in France for the Gay Head Light. There’s also a new year-round café with a hilltop view of Lagoon Pond. And a museum shop.

new music festival in august

The Beach Road Weekend is a new 3-day music festival at Veterans Memorial Park in Vineyard Haven. It’ll be held the weekend of August 9-11, 2019. Headliners are John Fogerty, Phil Lesh and Friends (Lesh is the former bassist for The Grateful Dead), Dispatch, and Grace Potter. The opening-night act is a open-air viewing of the movie “Jaws.” It will be accompanied by the Cape Cod Symphony playing the film’s score.There are several levels of tickets, including reserved seating and lawn seating that will feature beach chairs. Tickets went on sale on May 31, 2019.

The Harbor View Hotel in Edgartown closed for renovations over the winter. It’s now open again with two new restaurants: Roxana Bar and Bettini helmed by chef Patrice Martineau, a veteran of Daniel Boulud’s New York restaurant empire. There’s also a new Presidential Sky House in a formerly unused space, featuring a four-bedroom, five-bathroom suite and spectacular views. And it has a dandelion chandelier. So you know it’s true luxury magic.

In other Edgartown lodging news, there’s a fourth inn joining sister properties The Christopher, The Sydney, and The Richard. The new Edgartown Inn draws inspiration from Martha’s Vineyard’s farms and gardens, and will feature a relaxed modern farmhouse style in a classic coastal Captain’s home. The Lark hotel group owns all four, in addition to Summercamp in Oak Bluffs.

restaurant and dining news

Lola’s restaurant owner Kathy Domitrovich has sold to a new owner – the restaurant will be managed by Doug Abdelnour Jr., the owner of Nancy’s Snack Bar in Oak Bluffs.

Town Bar & Grill (227 Upper Main St., Edgartown) debuts this summer. As does MV Salads, located at the top of Circuit Avenue in Oak Bluffs.

Word to the wise: Sea Smoke Barbeque in Oak Bluffs has received approval to host axe-throwing at the restaurant this summer.
