the luxury gift guide: the best in florals and flowers

1. fresh flowers.

We begin our luxury gift guide for those who love florals with – wait for it – actual flowers. You can’t go wrong with a fresh potted plant.  Rebecca Bullene’s botanic design company, Greenery NYC, has launched an online store with local delivery of a curated selection of potted plants within 24 hours, making it a great option for the last minute gift givers out there.  Our favorite is the Birds of Paradise ($79 and up) that is available with over 30 different pot options.

A flower fanatic would love a flower arranging class at a place like the renowned Putnam & Putnam Studio in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.  The studio offers half day editorial workshops ($750), as well as full day intensive workshops ($1,500).

If money is no object, you could of course help them grow their own plants with a new greenhouse.  Tiffany & Co’s Everyday Objects Sterling Silver Greenhouse ($275,000) is made of solid sterling silver, copper and glass.  Each one is hand-assemble the greenhouses over the course of nine months and takes nearly 1,000 hours to complete.

2. faux flowers.

For a gift that requires slightly less maintenance and one that will last forever, we like faux flowers.  Two of our favorites include the crystal Waterford Fleurology Flowers Rose Figurine ($75) with its fine detailing and Louis Vuitton’s Origami Flowers designed by the multidisciplinary studio Atelier Oï ($350). The origami flowers offer a new interpretation of the art of paper folding – artisans cut simple, graceful blossoms from supple leather in four different shapes.

3. vases and vessels.

Vases make for a no brainer gift for any floral enthusiast.  Having a beautiful vase around will ensure they always have someplace to put their latest bouquet.  For a clean and simple style we like Hay’s Paper Porcelain Vase ($95 – $145).  This vase gets its name from having the look of folded cardboard paper.  For a pop of color we like Moser USA’s Gema bud vase ($1,130) that are handcrafted in the Czech Republic of mouth-blown purple and pink crystal.  Anyone who truly loves flowers and botanicals will like any one of Asprey’s hand-carved glass vases that represent each of the four seasons.  Our favorite is the fresh green Spring Vase ($6,000).

4. home decor.

If your recipient lives in a place where flowers aren’t blooming year round, a floral inspired home decor item would help to brighten their home in the offseason.  The Rockett St George Rose Velvet Cushion ($56) is a soft, dreamy home addition that will work with practically any home decor.  We picture it on a barrel armchair for the ultimate cozy seating spot.

Throw blankets are always a good idea and we love the wool cotton blended Marimekko throw ($180) in the brand’s iconic Unikko flower pattern.  If you are unsure of the brand’s bright pink and blue colors you could always opt for the more subtle grey or black versions.  Gucci’s Rose Print Trinket Tray ($270) is sweet and subtle, and will surely perk up their home on a dreary day,

5. books.

A coffee table book will not only look beautiful in their home, but will also help your recipient to hone new gardening skills too.  You might consider Louesa Roebuck and Sarah Lonsdale’s Foraged Fauna ($40), a gorgeously photographed guide to flower arranging, offering a fresh, modern take on the time-honored art by focusing on local and hand-foraged plants and blooms.

You can’t go wrong with Martha Stewart’s guide, Martha’s Flowers: A Practical Guide to Growing, Gathering, and Enjoying ($45). It’s her 90th full-length book and she shares her best tips for growing and arranging blooms.  Featuring more than 80 new designers breathing life into floristry, Blooms: Contemporary Floral Design ($50) showcases colorful, modern floral designs that are anything but fussy.

6. accessories.

Valet’s Natasha Resin Hair Clips ($45) would look pretty tucked into loose waves. They’re made from hand poured resin and topped with ’60s-style lilac flowers.  Salvatore Ferragamo’s Tree of Life scarf ($260) is soft and lightweight and features a delicate illustration of the Tree of Life.  We like it tied on a bag or around a ponytail for a casual yet polished look.

Why should the ladies have all the floral fun?  For the men we like Loewe’s Paula Ibiza Bucket Hat ($460).  Made in Spain from cotton-canvas, this bucket hat is decorated with a retro floral pattern and stitched with the brand’s leather logo patch.  They can wear it on holiday or even out in the garden when they are tending to their blooms.

7. statement bags.

A floral bag will let them carry their garden with them wherever they go.  MZ Wallace is known for their practical and lightweight nylon totes in a variety of colors, but we can’t help but adore their new Black Floral Metro Tote ($225) with a colorful array of flowers on the outside and a bright bold blue lining on the inside.

The Gucci Floral Tote bag ($790) is crafted from a soft and lightweight coated cotton fabric with a floral motif.  It’s perfect for carrying your day to day items or even toting around your latest bouquet.

For a more versatile look, we love Alexander McQueen’s Floral Jeweled Satchel ($2,690).  It’s made of leather with a tapestry-style floral embroidery and can be worn multiple ways: hand-held using the ring handle or by doubling up the straps. Alternatively, they can wear it over the shoulder or across the body using the leather and chain straps.

8. jewelry.

Fortunately for flower lovers, there is nothing more on trend this year than floral statement jewelry.  The Water Lily Pendant Necklace by Lele Sadoughi ($65) showcases an artful take on the silhouette, while Louis Vuitton’s Flower Full Ring ($515) reinterprets the Maison’s iconic monogram flower motif for a timeless, feminine look.

We love the idea of small bouquets swinging from earlobes, and we can’t help but like these 18K white gold Diorette Earrings ($5,700) made of diamonds and hand painted lacquer flowers.

9. a floral fragrance.

A new floral fragrance is something that they can wear every day and think of you.  We are big fans of Maison Francis Kurkdjian Amyris Femme ($225) with its woody notes from Jamaica’s Amyris tree and floral notes of Florentine Iris.

Chanel has reimagined its Chance fragrance by enriching its rose bouquet with jasmine absolute and creamy musk in Chanel Chance Eau Tendre ($85).  If you’re in the market for something a little more masculine, try Tom Ford Beau de Jour ($235).  Provence lavender offers freshness while geranium, rosemary, and oakmoss mix together to give you an air of warmth and earthiness.

10. apparel.

Another great wearable option is floral-inspired clothing.  Though it’s not necessarily groundbreaking, it makes for a classic spring and summer look.  We love this cute Madonna Pinstriped Puff Sleeve Mini Dress ($335) from Bali based brand Innika Choo that is great for trips to the beach and summer nights out.

For the guys we like Versace’s Fluo Barocco Patch Polo Shirt ($795) that has just a touch of floral on the shoulders.  Another fun (and unisex) pick is Gucci’s Flora Oversized Heavy Felt Logo Sweatshirt ($1,280) in the brand’s Carte de Tendre print for fall and winter.

On-trend additions to our luxury gift guide for those who love florals come straight from the runway. Prada’s fall-winter 2019 collection is filled with vibrant blooms. Opt for a bold statement like this over-sized floral-print cotton shirt ($1,120). Or a floral-print leather midi-skirt ($2,980). An electrified rose sweater  ($1,060) would be perfect for those who prefer the edgier side of florals.
