Why? Because for starters, it’s an easier way to shop. Your eye can focus on just one shade in the visual cacophony at retail, or you can more easily search for ideas online.

Second, when the presents are open, everything looks great together! What could be better for your Instagram photos? Color-coding is clearly the way to go if you want to look pulled-together for posterity.

Finally, it’s just fun for someone who loves color, and shopping, and pulling everything all together. ‘Cause why not?

neutral colors can make for perfectly chic luxury gifts

historically, neutral shades of brown are unappreciated

The color brown is quite possibly one of the most underrated colors in the world.  Rarely does it top anyone’s list as one of their favorite colors.  That could be because the color brown can sometimes indicate that something has been overcooked.  Or that a person who is called a brown noser is someone who acts in a grossly obsequious way.  In fact, brown consistently ranks as one of the three least favorite colors by both men and women.

so many luxuries come in shades of brown!

We think this dislike is a little unfair though.  After all, brown is the color of some of our favorite things like a delicious chocolate, a cup of coffee and our favorite pair of leather boots – not to mention it’s our go to shade of eyes hadow that we never leave home without.  And is there anyone who can resist a brown butter blondie topped with hazelnut ice cream?  We think not.

comforting, earthy, flexible and rich

The color brown brings to mind feelings of warmth, comfort and security.  Perhaps that is why even though it typically isn’t anyone’s favorite color, it is one of the most sought after shades for living rooms.  Brown can also be described as natural, down to earth and conventional, but brown can also be sophisticated too.  It’s often the favored color of fashion minimalists and is the signature color of some of favorite luxury brands like Fendi and Louis Vuitton – just look at their brand monograms.  Even better is that brown is a neutral color that goes with practically everything and anything thanks to its varying shades.

colors you can rely on

Earth tones like chocolate brown, caramel, walnut, stone or tan aren’t flashy, but they are understated, calm and dependable just like your favorite khaki trench coat.  So what better way to show a friend or loved one you appreciate their reliability than with gifting them something in one of the many soothing shades of brown?

the chic luxury gift guide: the best in neutral colors and shades of brown

Here are our 34 of our favorite luxury finds across the spectrum of brown.

1. High Jewelry.

Minimalists will love the discreet details on Piaget’s Possession 18-karat rose gold tiger’s eye necklace ($5,750) that is decorated with a row of glistening diamonds that spin softly with a push of a finger.  Simple yet elegant, Pippa Small’s 18-karat gold quartz earrings ($1,900) work equally well for day or night.  Roxanne Assoulin’s set of five terrazzo bracelets ($395) is a more affordable option that is designed with glossy, earth-toned enamel beads that will work well against this season’s other neutrals.

2. Haute horlogerie.

IWC Schaffhausen’s elegant Da Vinci Watch ($16,400) is a true collector’s item.  Engraved with the ‘Flower of Life’ on the back, it includes a moon phase display, polished 18-karat red gold and a bronze alligator strap handmade by Santoni.  Defined by its Art Deco-inspired clean lines and rounded corners, Cartier’s sleek Tank Louis Cartier ($8,650) watch is named after its founder who would wear this style himself – a true sign of its timelessness.  Another enduring option is Gucci’s G Timeless Watch ($1,020) that features a refined debossed Gucci signature leather strap and dial in light beige.

3. A Statement bag.

We love the architectural polish of Fendi’s Perforated Peekaboo X-Lite Handbag in Beige ($4,200) while the subtle use of leopard patterns on the Louis Vuitton’s Onthego Tote ($2,440) also makes for a fun neutral option.  And ICYMI, LV’s Onthego tote is also one of the brand’s most popular styles these days.  Speaking of hot styles, cozy fabrications are everywhere this season.  We can’t get enough of Stand Studio’s faux shearling soft Lola totes ($220).  While it comes in an array of colors, the beige style in particular gives us serious teddy bear vibes and would look cute and cuddly tucked under the nook of an arm.

4. Luxury accessories.

Celine’s Ivory Cat Eye Sunglasses ($460) would go perfect with just about any outfit if you ask us.  The very vertisle Isabel Marant Judd belt ($400) is made in Italy from brown waxed leather and finished with raw edges.  We picture it looped around the waist of a blazer, for a little dimension.  We’ve said it before and we will say it again, we love hats and this caramel colored Clyde Sazy wool-felt beret ($248) would make for a stunning gift that we couldn’t refuse.

5. Cozy knits.

How gorgeous is this Burberry Camel Faux Fur and Cashmere Stole ($2,090) punctuated with smooth lambskin patch pockets?  If that is a little too statement making, consider Maison Margiela’s Oversized ribbed wool-blend turtleneck sweater in a light grey beige ($1,370).  The oversized fit gives it extra off duty vibes.  You can’t go wrong with some knitwear from our fav boss lady brand, Veronica Beard.  The brand’s Jessie Cardigan ($475) would make a great layering piece, thanks to its cozy alpaca wool knit and long length.

6. Shoes, booties and sneakers.

With its wrap-around leather laces, platform construction and treaded rubber outsole, Louis Vuitton’s Laureate Platform Desert Boots ($1,190) are one of the brand’s most recognizable styles.  Another classic option, though for perhaps slightly different occasions, are Chanel’s Goatskin and Grosgrain Slingbacks ($875) that feature the brand’s signature combination of beige leather with a black grosgrain toe.  For sneakerheads there are Nike’s Air Huarache Run Phantom Light Bone ($100).  These beauties will pair just as beautifully with jeans and a tee as they will with one of Cecilie Banhsen’s flowy dresses.

7. Beauty and fragrance.

For some, brown is all about earthy and woody notes.  You can’t go wrong with Tom Ford’s sensual fragrance, Oud Wood ($240).  For something with a more gender neutral appeal, there is Byredo’s Gypsy Water Eau de Parfum ($175) that fuses fresh Lemon, Pepper and Juniper Berry extracts with smoky Incense and warm Amber.  The scent is far from overpowering and works well for both men and women.  On the makeup front, we love Chanel’s Les Ombres Eyeshadow in Clair Obscur ($62) – it’s our everyday go to.  The combination of four earthy tones was inspired by the mix of threads that adorn Chanel’s famous tweed.

8. Home decor.

A Hermes throw blanket it always a good idea and the brand’s Camo Chevrons Throw Blanket ($1,125) in jacquard woven wool and cashmere makes for a great option.  For their bookshelf or coffee table, we like this wooden RabLabs Afora Dice Bookend ($395).  It’s inlaid with cape amethyst pieces made to look like a die. Believe it or not, the brand famous for zigzags and stripes does have some neutral options to offer.  The Missoni Home Rafah Pillow ($275) has a muted palette of burgundy and brown velvet stripes that scream hygge.

9. Candles.

Tom Dixon’s Cork Candles ($190) are wrapped in cork sourced from bark from the forests of Portugal while the scent has notes of Patchouli and Neroli rounded with woody, leathery notes from oils of sacred Gaiac trees.  Housed in a deep brown glass vessel, Tom Ford’s Private Blend Mandarino Di Amalfi Candle ($98) captures the aromas of Italy’s most popular stretch of coastline.  Another great option is Molton Brown’s Tobacco Absolute Candle ($50) blended with musky tobacco absolute extract, fragrant cedarwood and deep leather accord.

10. Coffee table books.

Not only will Herman Miller: A Way of Living ($90) look beautiful on their shelves, but it will provide them with endless inspiration from some of the most iconic and understated designs of the mid-century era.  Any LV fan would love Louis Vuitton: The Spirit of Travel ($46).  In less than 200 pages, this book encapsulates the very essence of Louis Vuitton- its history, its characters and its values.  For something a little bit different, consider Guestbook ($30).  Artist and graphic novelist Leanne Shapton’s new book offers over two-dozen stories filled with ghosts, hauntings and loss, but with a touch of humor.

11. Tech gear.

How gorgeous would a set of KEF’s Q350 Speakers ($700) look on a bookshelf?  Even better is that these speakers excel when space is limited and greater bass is needed, filling even larger rooms with robust sound.  For streaming music on the go we love Master & Dynamic’s MW60 Wireless Over-Ear Headphones ($399) in a supple cognac brown leather.  Another on the go option, but for more than their ears alone, Bang & Olufsen’s ‘P2’ speaker ($175) in sandstone is a small but powerful speaker that provides clear sound that lasts for up to 10 hours.

12. A Set of wheels.

To close our luxury gift guide of the best gifts in browns and neutrals, here’s one to dream on – a 1,500-horsepower Bugatti Chiron ($2.998 million) in brown with gold.  Surely anyone who appreciates earthy tones would appreciate this memorable gift, right?  I know we would!
