The name on the tip of nearly tongue in the luxury ecosystem this week was Clubhouse. Launched less than a year ago, the members-only app attracted funding from storied venture capital firm Andreesen Horowitz last spring with only 1,500 members. The latest report is that the app is at 2 million users. And this week, the rush to join accelerated exponentially when Elon Musk interviewed Robinhood CEO Vlad on the platform. Next up? 10. Oatley (deliberately?) airs the worst Super Bowl ad of the year

Oatley oat milk aired its first US television commercial in the Super Bowl a week ago, and it was universally panned the Worst Ad Ever. The spot features CEO Toni Petersson playing an electric keyboard in a field of oats. He sings off-key about his product with a cringe-inducing warble that was so bad that it actually made us look at the screen to see if a small animal was being harmed. You can watch it here, if you dare.

But rather than embarrassment, the brand showed a cheeky and cheerful face to the world the next day. Clearly prepared for the torrent of derision, Oatley offered anyone who sought them out a free T-shirt readingI Totally Hated That Oatly Commercial.” If you want one, it’s too late. They’re all gone.

What can we learn from this? That the old PR adage is still true: any publicity is good publicity. And have no fear or pity for Mr. Petersson, ’cause life is looking pretty good for him right now. Oatly signed a $200 million deal with Blackstone last summer, and is discussing a potential $10 billion IPO this year.
