what are the best products for green spring cleaning this year?

Spring is such a wonderful time for a reset. The flowers are budding, the air is warmer, people are coming out of their winter hibernations and the cleaning begins. The first three sound great but that fourth one has some mixed feelings about it. But spring cleaning doesn’t have to be so daunting.

“Spring cleaning can be like a magic wand to our mental health. Psychological studies have shown that it helps to increase our energy level, make us feel more focused, productive, happier, and can decrease our stress level by about 70%,” Cleveland Clinic Psychologist Dr. Susan Albers in a recent interview with Spectrum News NY1

The secret to green spring house cleaning

The secret to green spring house cleaning.

“When we walk into a room that feels cluttered or like a tornado hit it, our brain clicks into overdrive. Our visual cortex starts to scan the environment, to figure out what’s going on in the room, and it becomes very taxing and overloaded. In contrast to when we walk into a room that is decluttered, our brain relaxes and says, ‘ah,’” Albers added.

Indeed, those pesky cleaning tasks like vacuuming and washing the tub can even have the same benefits as exercising. Meaning you will feel better afterward, according to Albers. The key is to start small so you don’t get overwhelmed — so,  maybe don’t tackle the entire garage one day one. Instead, opt for a closet or even a drawer as your first task.

The experts at Real Simple also suggest breaking up the cleaning into 10-minute segments, again not to overwhelm you. Another great hack they suggest for removing those pesky coffee stains is to fill the mug with one part baking soda and two parts water. Then let it soak overnight and wash again with a sponge in the morning and voila

But if you do decide to attack your overcluttered clothes closet, that somehow still has clothes from high school (because you may lose the weight!), who better to turn to than an influencer?

Helen Owen told Stylecaster “My most manageable strategy for that is to abide by the following rule: every time you add something new to your closet, part ways with something you’ve been neglecting.” This one-in, one-out rule keeps things from getting too cluttered, and helps you avoid spending hours sorting through clothes after letting them pile up.

Expert advice and hacks to make spring cleaning last all year.

“This way, you’re balancing out your closet without having to do a full closet sweep—which can be a huge undertaking,” Owen advises.

It’s a ‘keep spring cleaning in your heart all year’ tip. And it works!

Also when cleaning, though we would all like everything to look beautiful enough to brag on the internet, don’t sacrifice order and organization for Instagram. “Everyday items need to be accessible, so definitely not stored in a box or cupboard that I have to jump through hoops just to access,” Owen said.

And just in time for a season of deep cleaning, Chrissy Teigen and Kris Jenner this month launched a line of vegan cleaning products called Safely. Including products like a universal cleaner for surfaces, glass cleaner, hand soap and more. They’re all made with plant-based ingredients that claim to be better for the environment because they’re all sans harsh chemicals.

The aesthetics of the Safely products are also on point in their welcoming shades of mint green and they come in appealing kits: Clean Freak Kit, Clean Hands Kit, Essential Kit and Laundry Duo Kit. We all know wearing the right clothes gives you more motivation to exercise, and the same goes for visually pleasing cleaning tools. Perhaps you should try wearing sequins like Teigan does in the ad campaign for line. Hey, it couldn’t hurt?
