Costumes can range from funny to scary, ornate to oddball. Do they want to be a character they’ve seen in movies and TV character, or do they want to be a pretty princess? The choices are plenty, and since this is the one day a year where children really get to live their fantasies, we want to make sure we do it right.

Here are ten great Halloween store costumes to consider for your kids in 2021.

10 best Halloween store costumes for kids in 2021

1. Maleficent from Mud and Majesty.

A Disney classic Halloween costume for girls and boys, but with a twist. We’ve never seen a take on Maleficent as magnificent as this one. The outfit comes with handmade wings, a crow staff scepter, and 3D-printed horns, and these props elevate the look to an extraordinary high. If your little wants to dip their toe into villainy this Halloween, but still craves a costume as intricate and beautiful as that of a princess, then this very special outfit may be the one to choose. Available for children ages 3 – 12.

2. Skeleton Costume from BADINKA.

A lot of scary Halloween costumes for boys and girls run the risk of looking identical – but not this one. If your child wants to go as a skeleton this year, jumpsuits like this one bring a special touch to an age-old classic. Made with a silky Italian Lycra fabric, and with saturated colors, this is the kind of costume that will make any kid the hit of trick-or-treating. And there are options for all ages, and genders, and with other color schemes, so check out the shop’s full offerings.

3. Man-Eating Shark from Chasing Fireflies.

Something about this man-eating shark costume has caught our eye. Chasing Fireflies is always a trusted source for kids’ costumes, and this one looks like a winner – even though it’s unclear whether the shark is supposed to be eating the child, or whether the child is the shark. Yet another way for them to exercise their creativity this Halloween.  And with its sturdy wire structure and one-size-fits-all approach, you know this is a costume that will keep them happy all night long.

4. Blue Bird Costume from Meri Meri.

When it comes to sparkle and pizzazz, Meri Meri does it best. Every single one of their costumes has a unique flair, but we are partial to this ruffly blue bird. It’s easy to put on and take off, and nothing beats that glittery attention to detail. Perfect for any child who wants to spend this Halloween pretending they can fly.

5. Wednesday Addams from Mia Belle Baby.

If there’s a character you love from TV or movies, chances are Mia Belle Baby has got them in stock. But this one has caught our eye, not only because it’s Wednesday Addams, but because it comes with a special Mommy & Me option, for those who’d like to dress up together. The costume includes the signature Wednesday dress, so you just need the braids and shoes to pull it all together. Halloween is Wednesday’s own personal holiday, so it seems appropriate to choose her as a costume – and if you’ve ever wanted to go as Morticia, now’s your chance.

6. Cinderella from All Dressed Up Couture.

You have to have a princess in the mix – we don’t make the rules. Of course, we know it can be difficult to choose one, because there are probably more Princess costumes out there than there are children to wear them. So why not go with the one who started it all? We’re partial to this rendition of Cinderella, because its tutu skirt has a little bit more flounce than Cinderella’s own ballgown, but it’s still recognizable as belonging to the Disney princess. A royal choice for this Halloween.

7. Elvis Presley from Abracadabra.

Of course, Abracadabra has every costume you could ever be searching for. If your child wants to be a Gryffindor or an Avenger, a Pokemon or a baseball player, Abracadabra can make that happen. But maybe your child wants to be none of those things. Maybe they want to be Elvis. You never know. And if they do want to be Elvis, well – have we got the costume for you. This has got to be one of the most fun Halloween costumes we’ve seen, and we hope somebody’s child is cool enough to choose it this year.

8. Jack Skellington from Wicked and Wonder.

The Nightmare Before Christmas is a Halloween classic, and this is hands-down the best Jack Skellington costume out there. A perfect replica of the pin stripe suit that Jack wears in the movie, with the white shirt sewn into the jacket so that it never rides up. Now all you need is a little face paint, and your child will be ready for the best Halloween night of their life. And don’t forget to check out the rest of Wicked and Wonder’s shop for many other excellent choices.

9. Ghostbusters from KnickznKnackzUS.

Don’t worry, we didn’t forget about the little ones who might be too little for your typical costume. If you have an infant you’d like to dress up this year, we cannot imagine a cuter getup than the marshmallow from Ghostbusters. This one comes in sizes for children 0-18 months, and it’s actually just a super-comfortable set of stuffed pants and a shirt. The shop calls the costume the “snuggly destroyer,” and we couldn’t love it more.

10. Bonus: Atelier Spatz

Last but not least on our list of the best Halloween store costumes for kids – both girls and boys – in 2021, we have to recommend the costumes from Atelier Spatz. These are one-of-a-kind, bespoke costumes that are created to actualize the images in your child’s mind.

They offer concierge service for those who are London-based, or else you can communicate via email. If you’re looking to use this Halloween to show your child that they can be anything they want to be, then helping them design the costume of their dreams is a wonderful place to start. Halloween doesn’t have to be a holiday about candy – it can be a tool for cultivating a child’s imagination. This is where the magic starts.
