Of course, springtime in New York can be a little fickle – as seen by the recent snow. We are all familiar with those days where we leave the house clinging to our winter coats, and are drenched in sweat by mid-afternoon. It can be a puzzle to make plans – especially plans that live up to your dreams for the season.

So if you’re spending this spring in the city, we have a few suggestions. These are foolproof spring activities that will work for any weekend, rain or shine. Here are ten ways to make the most of these next few months.

10 Spring 2022 activities best to enjoy in New York City (NYC)

1. West Side of Manhattan: The High Line, Little Island and The Whitney.

If you haven’t been to the High Line in a while, this is the moment to plan your return. The classic warm-weather New York spot, the High Line is a perfect day all in one place: food, views, events, art installations, and more.

And while you’re in the area, you should also make time for the High Line’s newest neighbor Little Island, especially if you didn’t have the chance to visit last season.  Make sure to book your free reservation, which is required beginning mid-March. And if it rains…or snows? Walk over to the Whitney, which is right next door.

2. Fort Greene Historic District, Brooklyn: Fort Greene Park, Rooftop Reds, and BAM.

We are thrilled to see Rooftop Reds – Brooklyn’s amazing rooftop vineyard – reopening in early April. We suggest starting the day at Fort Greene Park, then heading to the winery for an incredible afternoon.

And you can always top off the day with an evening at BAM – whether it’s a movie, or one of the exciting live performances they have on their calendar this spring.  Who doesn’t want to spend this spring sunning in the park, drinking wine, then enjoying a night of theater, dance, or music? We know we do.

3. Greenwood Heights, Brooklyn: Green-Wood Cemetery and Baked.

Green-Wood Cemetery is Brooklyn’s best-kept secret. Located in Greenwood Heights, this National Historic Landmark was founded in 1838, and is now an outdoor source for history and community events, as well as a beautiful place for an afternoon stroll.

We can’t think of a better springtime destination, especially when you get to include a trip to the delicious Baked in Brooklyn – the perfect pitstop if you get a little chilly on your walk. We recommend the donuts.

4. Governors Island.

This is the time to take the ferry to Governors Island. As well as all of the outdoor activities you can think of – including bike rentals, walking tours, and teaching gardens – you’ll also find a full season of events inside the island’s many historic mansions.

Whether it’s art installations, theater productions, or educational exhibits, there’s plenty to do, both indoors and out. And when you add the island’s supply of food and drink, you’ll know you’ve found your go-to seasonal spot.

5. Harlem: Baylander Steel Beach and The Apollo.

Baylander Steel Beach reopens at the end of April, and we couldn’t be more excited. This might be our favorite restaurant on a boat, and it’s definitely the best place to eat burgers, sip “Captain’s Colada,” and say hello to sunny days.

And while you’re in the area – or if you see storm clouds overhead – head to the Apollo, for a fantastic slate of programming.

6. Prospect Park, Brooklyn: Brooklyn Botanic Garden, Smorgasburg, and Roller Skating.

You can’t kick off the season without a trip to Prospect Park. Brooklyn Botanic Garden promises an update on their cherry blossoms at the end of March, and Smorgasburg is returning April 3rd.

These are classic springtime activities, and the best way to make us feel like the winter is finally behind us. And if you need a little shelter from the rain, why not head to Lakeside for an afternoon of roller skating?

7. Riverdale section of the Bronx: the New York Botanical Garden.

And we can’t suggest Brooklyn Botanic Garden without also sending you up to the Bronx. New York Botanical Garden always tops the list of our favorite places in the city, and the spring is the time it shines the brightest.

Check out what’s going on this season – such as the Orchid Show – and plan an excursion the first time your weather app promises sun.

8. Bushwick, Brooklyn: Syndicated and Nowadays.

Bushwick, Brooklyn might be the place to solve our indoor, outdoor conundrum. Syndicated Bar Theater is a movie theater, restaurant, and bar in one. Inside, they play all the latest films, and outside at the Sidewalk Cinema, they play all your beloved classics. Rain or shine.

And if you’re craving a nightcap, be sure to stop at Ridgewood, Queens’ Nowadays before you head home. If you’re the kind of person who wishes you could leapfrog over spring to get to summer, this is the outdoor bar you’ve been waiting for.

9. Floral Park and Glen Oaks, Queens: Queens County Farm Museum.

Especially if you’re spending your spring day with little children, you won’t find a better spot than Queens County Farm Museum. Located at the outer edge of the borough, the farm is currently celebrating their 325th year of continuous farming.

There are animals, scavenger hunts, hayrides, and events, as well as indoor spaces – like the reading room – for any rainy days. This is one of those rare spots that will make you feel a million miles away – even while you’re still within the five boroughs.

10. Midtown Manhattan: Picnic in Central Park.

You don’t even need the rest of this list, because you could spend the whole season luxuriating in Central Park. Of course, the park boasts plenty of events and things to do, but sometimes the best days are ones spent lying on the Great Lawn, enjoying a picnic lunch with friends.
