Baby, it’s cold outside, and you know what that means. Time to bundle up! And if you want to stay both warm and on trend this winter, we’ve got one word, dear reader: balaclava. The balaclava was a hot trend last winter, thanks to TikTok. Now the leading luxury designer brands are going all in on the balaclava, and we’ve curated a collection of 7 of the best ones out there.

the luxury designer Balaclava is a hot designer fashion trend

Though we are having a bit of a warm fall the winter will be here soon enough and we’ll all be figuring out how to keep our bodies fully covered while still having some resemblance of a fashionable aesthetic. You could go for the classic wool cap, and this season it will be all about fun colors and checkered prints, or you could go for something a little bit more unique and avant-garde. Have you tried a balaclava?

Though we had two-plus years of wearing masks fashion is asking you to do it once again but this time it is in the name of fashion so it is fun! And unlike the rest of fashion, it will actually keep you quite warm. The balaclava has made a comeback. In case you aren’t familiar the balaclava is a hood like covering that can keep most of the head and face covered except for the eyes, nose and mouth. But some of the more fashion  forward ones now just appear like a snood that do show off your whole face.

Luxury Balaclavas for women to buy this Winter as one of your wardrobe essentials.

The history of the balaclava is quite interesting and rather topical now.  They originated in the Ukranian town of the same name during the Crimean War in 1854. As you can imagine, the freezing conditions were tough on the British and Irish soldiers that had come to fight the Russians in their summer uniforms. So the women back home in Britain knew hats weren’t going to cut it so they created full-face scarves essentially for their soldiers. Effective for warmth as well as camouflage to avoid surveillance, the balaclava has become a symbol of eastern European militia.

It can present a bit of a jarring yet dramatic appearance. But with designers like Givency, Louis Vuitton, Miu Miu, Giorgio Armani and, of course, Balenciaga, which has led the charge in covering-your-face-and-hands-is-the-new-crop-top-fashion-movement embracing these accessories in fun colors and patterns, they have taken on a new life. And you know it is not popular when TikTok starts making videos about it ( there are over 102 million videos with the hashtag #Balacalva).

“Recent balaclava designs from the likes of Stella McCartney all the way through to those now on sale at Zara are fueling the demand among all ages,”  Jessica Payne, Pinterest’s head of fashion, said in an interview.

ready to stay warm with the hot designer fashion trend, the balaclava?

Not to say that there isn’t some controversy that still comes with the balaclava. We are seeing upscale brands as well as fast-fashion ones like Zara jump on this trend as well as TikTok tutorials on how to make your own. And yet, Muslim women are judged, criticized and even attacked for wearing head coverings. Just something to keep in mind if you opt into this trend.
