Fall music festival season is almost here, and our correspondent Abbie Martin Greenbaum has rounded up a list of the world’s best live Fall 2022 music festivals in the US and Europe this autumn, including hip-hop, R&B, EDM, alternative, world, rock and pop.

Fall officially starts around September 22nd, but that doesn’t mean the fun has to end. Though we do tend to think of summer as the queen of the music festival, fall has its own treasure trove of good times to offer.

Even as the weather cools, the days get a little shorter, there are still plenty of memories for you to make – here are twelve fall music festivals you don’t want to miss.

1. Firefly

Delaware, September 22nd – September 25th, 2022. What a way to start the season. In the Woodlands of Dover, Delaware, Firefly is always one of the year’s best festivals, and we can think of no better way to spend the equinox. This year’s headliners are Halsey, My Chemical Romance, Green Day, and Dua Lipa, but make sure to check out the full lineup, because there’s a ton of talent hitting the stage this year. And if you really want to start the season with a bang, consider camping – a beloved tradition of many Firefly attendees.

2. iHeartRadio Music Festival

Nevada, September 23rd – 24th, 2022. iHeartRadio Music Festival returns to Las Vegas this September, and we’re delighted to tell you that there’s not a small name in the lineup. Instead, the festival is bringing all the superstars from all the genres – and also all the throwbacks. Avril Lavigne and The Black Eyed Peas headline, and there are also performances by Diplo, Halsey, Lionel Richie, LL Cool J, Maren Morris, Megan Thee Stallion, Nicki Minaj, and many others.

3. Rolling Loud

New York, September 23rd – 25th, 2022. Rolling Loud has been called the greatest Hip Hop Festival in the world, with performances in Portugal, Toronto, the Netherlands, and Miami – and before the year is over, in New York. This September, Rolling Loud is coming to Queens’ Citifield, with performances from Nicki Minaj, A$Ap Rocky, Future, Lil Uzi Vert, 21 Savage, Big Sean, and special guest Playboi Carti – not to mention at least a hundred other well-known names. And if you really want to go all-out, consider applying to join the “Loud Club.”

4. Sound on Sound

Connecticut, September 24th – 25th, 2022. This is the inaugural year for Bridgeport’s Sound on Sound, and we have to say that we are already impressed.  They’ve packed 22 all-star artists into 2 days, including Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds, The Roots, Brandi Carlile, Ziggy Marley, Father John Misty, and Stevie Nicks herself – plus many, many others. And to make things even more magical, the entire fest takes place in Seaside Park, with a spectacular view of the water.

5. Ohana Festival

California, September 30th – October 2nd, 2022. Stevie Nicks. Khruangbin. Brittany Howard. Eddie Vedder. Jack White. P!nk. St Vincent. These are just a few of the artists who will be heading to Dana Point, California, for a glorious autumn weekend. If you don’t feel quite ready to wave goodbye to warm weather, this Southern California genre-bending festival might be the one for you.

6. All Things Go

Maryland, October 1st, 2022. This single-day Maryland festival was first started in 2014, and this year is going to be their biggest event so far. It’s hard to believe that you can enjoy so many enormous artists – including Lorde, Mitski, Bleachers, Lucy Dacus, and King Princess – all in one day, but that’s the magic of All Things Go. You can expect immersive art installations and hand-picked food stalls, all tucked into a scenic corner of the forest.

7. Austin City Limits

Texas, October 7th – 9th and 14th – 16th, 2022. Austin City Limits is one of the major music festivals of the year, and autumn is lucky to call them its own. Though their three-day tickets are already sold out, there are still plenty of one day-tickets available, and the challenge will be selecting which day you want to attend. Do you want to see The Chicks, Sza, and Phoenix? What about P!nk, Flume, and Lil Nas X? Of course, you could also choose The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Kacey Musgraves, and Paramore. This is one impossible choice, but we know that whatever day you pick, you’ll have an unforgettable experience. As well as more than a hundred performances, Austin City Limits is well-known for their food, drinks, and other attractions.

8. III points

Florida, October 21 – 22nd, 2022.  Who says you can’t go to the beach in fall? III Points is in Miami, only a few blocks from the water’s edge. And this year, they’re expecting rock-star performances from LCD Sound System, Rosalia, Porter Robinson, Flume, and many other major artists. III Points is known for providing an all-around epic experience, with interactive art, graffiti, and technology.

9. Primavera Sound

Brazil, October 31st – November 6, 2022, and Chile, November 7th – 13th, 2022, and Argentina, November 7th – 13th, 2022. Primavera Sound has always been the sound of summer, and now they’re also the sound of fall. After their LA fest closes out those final pre-fall days, their Brazil fest comes bounding in to keep the magic going. And then we have Chile and Argentina to look forward to right after those last notes are sung. Check out the enormous lineup on Primavera’s website, but know that you can expect appearances from huge names like Mitski, Arctic Monkeys, Björk, Japanese Breakfast, Travis Scott,  Lorde, Phoebe Bridgers, and so many more.

10. Pitchfork Music Festival

Germany, November 4th – 6th, 2022 and The United Kingdom, November 9th – 13th, 2022. Pitchfork Music Festival London (an offshoot of the Chicago festival) debuted in 2021, and we’re excited to see them back for their sophomore year – and we’re even more excited to see their freshman Berlin fest. They’ve got an impressive slate of artists lined up for you at both locations, including names like Black Midi, Squid, the Comet is Coming, Animal Collective, and Courtney Barnett.

11. Wonderfront

California, November 18th – 20th,2022. Head to San Diego for a little pre-Thanksgiving pizzazz, and catch performances from Zac Brown Band, Young the Giant, Kings of Leon, G-Eazy, Gwen Stefani, Cage the Elephant – as well as a surprise guest. You can also expect delicious food and wine, water taxis, a craft beer village, and so much more.

12. Reggae on the Mountain

California, November 18th – 20th, 2022. Reggae on the Mountain comes to Santa Barbara, California. This year’s festival features Ziggy Marley, Don Carlos, and Yellowman, as well as two surprise headliners who have yet to be announced. And since the festival is held at the gorgeous Live Oak Camp, there’s camping and glamping for those who are interested – so you can sleep under those shining California stars.
