Within minutes of your arrival by plane or train, you can be zipping across the lagoon in La Serenissma in a water taxi, which will deposit you at the front entrance of your hotel. Once you’re settled in, visit the Doge’s Palace and the islands of Murano (for glass) and Burano (for lace). Have lunch at Locanda Cipriani Restaurant on Torcello Island.

Spend time wandering through the city’s labyrinth of medieval alleyways and canals (getting lost and discovering hidden gems is part of what makes the city so romantic). You could start your day with morning Tai Chi as you watch the sun rise over the river. Then stroll through Yuyuan Gardens in the center of the Old City, and stop at the teahouse there – a lovely and romantic spot where you can watch the tea flowers “bloom” in glass teapots. You can visit a tea market for rare white tea leaves; or stop by the fantastical Gothic Moller Villa, which looks like a castle from a fairy tale.

By day, book a private car and driver and explore the Road to Hana (don’t drive it yourself! It’s a challenging road, and you both want to be able to relax and enjoy the view). The journey is filled with beautiful hideaways and secret beaches. The next day, you can charter a fully-staffed yacht and whale-watch and snorkel in privacy, or take a surfing lesson. The glitter of Manhattan never gets old, and there’s no bad time to visit. In February, depending on your mood, we suggest establishing a luxurious home base in midtown at the St. Regis or in SoHo at the Crosby Street Hotel. From either, you’ll be within walking distance of a number of great galleries, shops, museums and restaurants.

If you want to see the city from above, in midtown you can go to the Top of the Rock – downtown you can head for the Observatory at the World Trade Center. Get lost roaming through one of the city’s great museums: the MoMA, the Met, or the Whitney. Go ice skating at Rockefeller Center, Central Park or Bryant Park.

Bundle up and take a stroll through the Luxembourg Gardens, the Place de Vosges, the cobbled streets of the Marais, or the Tuileries. Take a guided tour of the Louvre, the Musée de l’Orangerie, the Musée d’Orsay, the Musée Rodin or the splendid Jacquemart-Andre house museum.

Have lunch at the chic Café Marly, and later on stop at a patisserie for something sweet, or have a steaming cup of chocolat chaud. For dinner, whether or not you’re staying at the hotel, have a wonderful meal at Epicure, the 3-Michelin-starred restaurant at Le Bristol.
