Brewery Location: Dowington, Pennsylvania 

Style: Sour 

2020 may have left a sour taste in your mouth but this beer won’t. This pilsner-style sour brew from Dowington, Pennsylvania is one of the best craft beers for this winter season. It has tropical aromas and Belgian spice mixed with a hint of sweetness. It’s said to have a tangy citrus taste with notes of lemon. And while we think it brings a bit of a summer vibe to your winter craft beer rotation, this one is available year-round.

2. Fort Point Beer Company Dipper Double IPA

Brewery Location: San Francisco 

Style: Double IPA 

This San Francisco-made IPA by Fort Point Beer Co. has notes of pink grapefruit and orange juice that carry through this light and crisp brew. It’s balanced with a subtle taste of malt and has a fruity finish.

3. Springdale Brig Mocha Stout

Brewery location: Framingham, Mass.

Style: Stout

This Framingham, Massachusetts-based brewery serves up a sweet stout that features roasted coffee notes mixed with vanilla and caramel. Or as the brewers describe it: Brazilian coffee, chocolate, oats, and milk sugar bring their best to this delightful, decadent beer.”

4. PFriem Maple Barrel Aged Smoked Porter

Brewery location: Hood River, Ore. 

Style: Porter 

This smoked porter style beer is aged in maple syrup with 9.1% ABV that’s reminiscent of pancakes for breakfast. It features a blend of bourbon-spiked Irish coffee, pecan pie and wood-fired flavors.

5. Dogfish Head Campfire Amplifier

Brewery location: Milton, Del.

Style: Milk Stout

The campfire classic comes with a buzz. This milky stout is brewed with marshmallows, cocoa nibs, cinnamon, graham crackers, vanilla beans and smoked malt.

6. Weathered Souls Black is Beautiful

Brewery location: San Antonio, Texas

Style: Imperial Stout

Drinking this beer – one of the best stout craft beers out there this winter – provides enjoyment. And it also promotes change.  100% of the proceeds towards this imperial stout are expected to go towards foundations in support of police reform and legal defense funds. The cause was started by breweries, including Weathered Souls, which inspired others to start contributing to foundations that aid in reform.

7. Yazoo Saison d’Hiver

Brewery location: Nashville, Tennessee 

Style: Saison 

A limited-edition winter offering, this  dark winter Saison is “brewed with Vienna, dark wheat, roasted barley, special b malt and dark invert Candi syrup. Fermented with multiple Belgian and French yeast strains on dried black currants,” it’s a special winter treat. And it’s selling quickly.

8. Wrinkle, the Veil Brewing Co.

Brewery location: Richmond, Virginia

Style: Double IPA 

We close our list of the best craft beers to enjoy this winter holiday season with a double IPA. Wrinkle is a brand new Double IPA from the Veil Brewing Company described as “heavy on the oats and wheat . . . it tastes like Gushers fruit snacks with a hint of pleasant dankness.”
