Last month, Vail Resorts, a collection of 37 mountain destinations in the United States, Canada, and Australia, unveiled its vision of what the season might look like. Required face coverings. Physical distancing on chairlifts and mountain restaurants. Health screenings at ski schools.

And don’t shoot the messenger, but at the Vail Resorts, full-service bars will be closed this season. And we’re actually OK with that. We’ll say farewell to the après ski scene if it means we can actually ski.

Who knows? Perhaps we’ll all have to plan to ski locally – which means the Manhattan crowd may end up at Hunter Mountain if we can’t cross state lines (New England, we’re just putting it out there: we’re counting on you to keep the curve flat).
